refFinder now allows you to pay referees in person or
through our online system
Some vocabulary we use across refFinder:
- "Tournament Organizer": The person who posts the tournament on refFinder and who is ultimately responsible for ensuring referees are paid.
- "Tournament": A competition lasting up to five days with one address and payment method. Tournaments typically have multiple events.
- "Event"/"Position": A portion of a tournament with a specific start time
and weapon for which one or more referees can be hired.
- USA Only:
The tournament organizer can specify a
minimum level of experience for each position; in order to qualify
for hiring, a referee must have the desired rating or higher (in the
correct weapon) attached to their refFinder account.
Payment:When you create a tournament, you select the method of payment.
Until 01 May, during the "Beta Period", we will not charge fees for creating tournaments or adding positions.
For Tournaments where Referees are Paid in Person:
- You (the organizer) pay refFinder a $5 fee to post your tournament and an
additional fee of $2 for each opening you add. (In other words, you are
paying refFinder to advertise the jobs.)
-
If you hire a referee for a position (and they accept):
- You are requested to pay the referee the price quoted in
the related refFinder listing in person (not through refFinder),
assuming they perform their job correctly. Failure to
do so may result in an investigation by refFinder which
could result in your account being permanently closed.
- The referee will be able to withdraw without consequence up to (and including) four days before the event.
- If the referee must withdraw within three days of the start of the event,
they are requested to contact the tournament organizer (you).
- If the referee fails to show for and referee the event (and did not withdraw through refFinder),
an investigation may be launched and their refFinder account suspended*.
- Referees who fail to show for (and fail to withdraw through refFinder from) multiple events may have their refFinder account permanently terminated.
-
If you need to
cancel a tournament:
- When no referees are hired, you can do so for free.
- At least six days before the tournament start date, you can do so after paying a penalty ($10 per hired ref position.)
- Within five days of the the tournament start date, you must
contact and make individual compensation arrangements with each
referee. If refFinder receives complaint(s) about a
tournament organizer not compensating referee(s) for the
cancelation, on short notice, of a job, refFinder may launch an
investigation and as a result of which organizer's account could
be suspended.
To provide an idea of what we refer to as "justifiable
compensation", please consider the fact that tournaments paid
through PayPal that are canceled within five days of tournament
start require organizers to pay hired & confirmed referees their
quoted fee.
For Tournaments where Referees are Paid through PayPal (U.S. Only):
- You (the organizer) pay refFinder a $5 fee to post your tournament and you can add as many positions as you want for free.
refFinder deducts a transaction fee from the wage you enter for each
position. Referees are shown the approximate amount of money they will
actually receive while you are shown the amount of money you will actually
be charged.
- If you hire a referee for a position (and they accept):
- At the conclusion of the tournament, you will pay all
referees at once through refFinder's PayPal payment system.
- The referee will be able to withdraw without consequence
up to (and including) four days before the event.
- If the referee must withdraw within three days of the
start of the event, they will be required to pay you a $5 fee*.
- Within five days of the the tournament start date, refFinder
will not allow you to do so - this is as a courtesy to our
referees: we do not want them to turn down other job
opportunities only to have their forthcoming payday disappear at
the last minute. If the tournament is not being held,
please contact each hired & confirmed referee as a courtesy;
however, you will still be required to pay all referees after
the tournament end date. If the organizer does not pay for
a tournament, even under these conditions, refFinder may launch an
investigation and as a result of which organizer's account could
be suspended and subject to a reactivation penalty charge.
For Tournaments in the UK:
- All wages for all positions in tournaments listed in the UK will be
considered listed in GBP
- All refFinder fees, penalties, and other incidental charges are assessed
in USD. If you are using PayPal outside of the United States, any currency
conversion necessary will be handled by PayPal.
*Exceptions may be made in the event of extenuating circumstances. |
